You know, for all the carp I gave these five ladies in my review for Grizzly II, I had no idea that they were so popular.
In Europe, at least.
Their name being "by the whole extent of the heavens" in Latin, Toto Coelo were created in the early Eighties by British singer/writer/producer Barry Blue. They consisted of Anita Mahadervan, Lacey Bond, Lindsey Danvers, Ros Holness and Sheen Doran.
Is it me or does this album cover clip I've supplied remind anybody else of The Go-Go's? Just me? Thought I'd better ask....
Then in 1982 came the group's biggest hit and probably the song they are best remembered for: "I Eat Cannibals".
Unfortunately, this would be the pinnacle of fame for the girls, looking at follow-ups such as "Mucho Macho"...
...an admittedly catchy tune called "Dracula's Tango"...
And a song that will probably be more familiar to those who have actually watched Grizzly II, "Milk From The Coconut".
Then things happened as they usually do with any group like Toto Coelo; members left, the remainder tried to sally forth (none of them being named "Sally", unfortunately) and they ended up kind of falling by the wayside, watching the Spice Girls pick up their baton and run with it.
I guess I don't really have anything ironic or clever to say about the quick rise and fall of Toto Coelo...I just thought this was something that you, as a reader of this blog, should know about.
You're welcome.
Dope out.
