Universities will have to publish details of how many of their recent graduates have jobs and how much they earn.
Currently 83 graduates are chasing every job vacancy, double the number two years ago.
Carl Gilleard, Chief Executive of the Association Of Graduate Recruiters, told BBC Radio 5 live: "Patience is certainly a virtue when you're applying for a graduate vacancy."
"You're going to have to make numerous applications," Gilleard explained to Dominic Laurie on Wake Up To Money.
"Focus those applications very much on the vacancy and the company that you're applying to."
