Amy Winehouse was found dead today at age 27. Though she was very young to die, she’s far from the first music superstar to die young. In fact, there are a number of musicians who happened to all die at age 27. Call it the 27-year-old curse.
Here’s the list of those who died by the hands of the curse of age 27:
Kurt Cobain
We all know the story of Kurt Cobain’s death. When he was alive, Kurt Cobain and Nirvana gained many fans and he’s still a huge hit with teenagers across the globe.
Jimi Hendrix
Name a genre of music and Jimi Hendrix likely influenced it. He’s known as a master of the guitar and a worldwide trendsetter.
Janis Joplin
Despite her relatively short career, Janis Joplin is considered one of the best female musicians of the last century. At her best, The Queen of Rock and Roll was definitely a legend.
Jim Morrison
The lead singer of The Doors is yet another musician who died at age 27. A poet at heart, his lyrics still are studied and loved today. A true rock hero.
Brian Jones
Talented on many instruments, Brian Jones is probably best known for being an original member of The Rolling Stones. Drug abuse led to an early demise shortly after he left the legendary band.
Robert Johnson
During his life, not many people knew of Robert Johnson. But years after his death, he became a blues superstar. He influenced many and was even inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Pigpen McKernan
A Grateful Dead original member, Pigpen McKernan played multiple instruments and also sang for the group. Unfortunately, he died of a rare liver disease at age 27.
And now Amy Winehouse is the latest member of the age 27 curse.
