HP silently upgrades the Pre 3 processor

HP Pre 3 We all know that the Pre 3 was supposed to ship about 10 days ago – at least that’s what Play.com advertised when it put the phone up for pre-order. But the date came, and the phone didn’t turn up, and people were left wondering what went wrong. Well, it looks like the reason for the delay might have been discovered.

A quick check of the official HP Pre 3 specs page shows that the phone has been given a pretty significant update – albeit silently. The webOS phone was initially announced to be shipping with a 1.4GHz Scorpion processor, but now the specs on the Pre 3 web page list it as having a 1.2GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor instead, giving it a big bump in processing power.

Now it’s uncertain why this upgrade happened (HP hasn’t announced it) but we believe it’s probably due to the fact that dual-core processors seem to be on a significant amount of phones this year, and seeing how HP doesn’t release a new phone every other month, giving the Pre 3 a bump in the SoC department could give the phone some longevity and shelf life to keep up with the competition. But this could explain the delay for the phone’s release. Hopefully this won’t delay the phone by too much.
