Once upon the time, the Seattle Mariners were 43-43 and the playoffs weren’t totally out of the question. However, since then, the Mariners have now lost 15 straight games. Their latest loss came Sunday afternoon against the Boston Red Sox.
The game started off well enough for the Mariners. Miguel Olivo hit a two-run homer in the first inning to give Seattle a 2-0 lead. From then on, though, it was all Boston.
By the sixth inning, the Red Sox had a 11-3 lead before winning the game by a final count of 12-8. Jarrod Saltalamacchia was 3-for-4 with 4 RBIs. Carl Crawford was also 3-for-4 and scored two runs while batting in two runs.
With the win, the Red Sox improved to an American League best 62-37. The Mariners at 43-58 suddenly are 1.5 games from having the worst record n the AL.
