Tully Banta-Cain, a linebacker for the New England Patriots, reportedly underwent abdomen surgery on Friday. Since the Patriots never release much information on injuries, we don’t really have many specifics. However, rumors point to Banta-Cain missing up to about five weeks.
If Banta-Cain indeed misses five weeks, he may not be available for the first week of the 2011 NFL season. The Patriots begin their season on September 12th against the Miami Dolphins.
In 2009, Banta-Cain had 9.5 sacks. Last year, he played well but dropped to five sacks. He had an injured abdomen at the end of last season — though he didn’t get surgery. He apparently re-injured his abdomen and now has to go under the knife.
